What is a pairing token? How should I use it?

Please note that pairing tokens only apply to native mobile applications.

Apptimize allows you to pair your device to the dashboard automatically if you are using a development-build of your mobile application. There is an additional step involved when pairing a production-build to the dashboard for added security and that's where the pairing token comes in.

A pairing token is a key unique to your application that allows you to pair a production-build (incl. AppStore and PlayStore builds) to the dashboard. 

To obtain the pairing token and pair your device to the dashboard, follow these steps:

1. Open the application on your device (phone/simulator/ipad).
2. Generate a pairing token for your device by triggering a 'Knock' gesture 4 times within 20 seconds. You can perform a Knock gesture by backgrounding and reopening your app.
3. A pairing token will be generated and copied to your clipboard. Paste the token to a notepad or any other application in your device.
4. In the dashboard, when you launch the visual editor or Preview Variants, click Add Device and add your token as shown in the images below.

Note: Pairing tokens expire in 1 hour.

SDKs older than 3.7.5 on Android and 3.4.7 on iOS 

To obtain a Pairing Token for your app open the Apptimize dashboard, go to your Organization Details, then click on the app for which you need the Pairing Token. It will expand and you can find the pairing token listed below the Name field.

You can also find the pairing token within the visual editor and Preview Variants modal.

Once you have the token, you can pair your device by copying this token to the clipboard of the device with your app and launching your application. Note: if your app is already open, you will have to kill and relaunch it after copying the token.

Manage Devices

You can navigate to Manage --> Devices in your dashboard to view currently active devices and pair new devices.
